Special election in Northwest Georgia will be held tomorrow to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene

Tomorrow is Election Day for northwest Georgia as well as other areas of the state.

The race to replace former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in District 14 will most likely go to a runoff due to the large number of candidates vying for the seat.

Greene resigned early this year after a public falling out with President Donald Trump prompting a special election.

According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website, 17 candidates remain on the ballot for the March 10 election with five candidates withdrawing from the race. There are 12 Republican candidates still in the running, three Democrats, a Liberitarian and an Independent.

Trump has endorsed Clay Fuller, a district attorney in northwest Georgia, as his pick for the seat.

“I think they’re looking for someone to carry President Trump’s banner, support his agenda and fight for on Capitol Hill,” Fuller told Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Jill Fisher, a voter in District 14, spoke with GPB about Fuller as her choice.

“I really like him. I think he’s a strong candidate, seems like a very nice family man with some great values, and I think he’ll add a lot to Congress,” she said.

Another frontrunner for the seat is former state Sen. Colton Moore, who is a far-right-leaning lawmaker.

Shawn Harris, a military veteran and farmer, has also emerged as the possible Democratic choice for the seat, and Democrats may be able to rally support behind him to avoid a runoff. However, the 14th District is heavily Republican with more than 64% of the vote going to Greene in 2024 against Harris.

“The reason why I’m running is because I want to represent everybody here in northwest Georgia,” Harris said during a candidate forum. “Farmers are hurting across the board in the district,” Harris said. “The people are saying it’s time for something different.”

Other elections that will be taking place on March 10 are state House District 130, state House District 94, and state Senate District 53.
