Democracy Isn't Dead Yet
Early voting started Monday for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District to replace former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Candidates in the crowded race spoke at a forum on Sunday to make an appeal to voters.
Greene officially resigned in January from her position after a public fallout with President Donald Trump.
Republican Clay Fuller spoke to his endorsement from Trump and his background as a prosecutor and veteran.
“I am running to be a warrior for northwest Georgia and to have President Trump’s back on Capitol Hill each and every day,” he said. “I think (voters are) looking for someone to carry President Trump’s banner, support his agenda, and fight for him on Capitol Hill.”
Democrat Shawn Harris also touted his military experience as well as being a farmer, saying he wants to work for the everyday American.
“The reason why I’m running is because I want to represent everybody here in northwest Georgia,” he said. “Farmers are hurting across the board in the district,” Harris said. “The people are saying it’s time for something different.”
Independent Rob “Rush” Ruszowski leaned on his identity as a political outsider.
“I can’t believe I’m actually on this stage because I’ve never been in politics before. I’m just a regular citizen,” he said. “Both parties have neglected the people of this country for decades.”
Election Day for this and other special elections, including state House District 130, state House District 94 and state Senate District 53, is set for March 10.
