The 'Georgia Diagnosis' - some bipartisan, some hyper-partisan: the Docter (Au) is in

Ballots set for March 10 special elections in Georgia

The ballots have been set for several state elections and one federal election scheduled for March 10.

The four elections that are on the docket are state House District 130, state House District 94, state Senate District 53 and U.S. Representative District 14.

Although the crowded field for District 14 was decided in mid-January, the final qualifying period for District 53 was held Monday.

Christian Hurd withdrew his candidacy for District 14 on Sunday and endorsed one of his opponents, Clay Fuller. Hurd said he will run for Georgia House District 2.

Here are the candidates, their political party, listed occupation and campaign website, if available.

State House District 130

State House District 130 has six candidates: four Democrats and two Republicans. The candidates are running to replace state Rep. Lynn Heffner, D-Augusta, after she resigned due to the residency requirement. Her home was damaged from Hurricane Helene and repairs have been slow.

  • David Carson, Republican, cyber security analyst and educator
  • Karen Gordon, Democrat, community development consultant
  • Lafawn S. Pinkney-Mealing, Democrat, labor relations practitioner
  • Sha’qunta “Q” Calles, Democrat, business owner
  • Sheila Clark Nelson, Democrat, retired
  • Thomas D. McAdams, Republican, chief administrative officer/ministry

State House District 94

State House District 94 has four Democrats fighting for the seat. The seat has been vacant since former state Rep. Karen Bennett, D-Stone Mountain, resigned shortly before allegations of unemployment fraud resulted in an indictment. She has pleaded guilty to the charges.

State Senate District 53

Former state Sen. Colton Moore, R-Trenton, stepped down to run for U.S. District 14. Three Republicans and one Democrat have entered the race to replace him.

U.S. Representative District 14

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her resignation shortly after a public dispute with President Donald Trump. Several candidates have lined up to take her place.
