Georgia election equipment committee holds first meeting Friday

The Joint Election Equipment Specifications and Standards Committee will hold its first meeting Friday at 10 a.m. in Atlanta.

The legislative panel was established during the 2026 special legislative session to develop recommendations for Georgia’s next uniform election system. The committee will work to develop standards and requirements for a new statewide election system.

The committee will go over their requirements during the meeting as well as set the schedule for meeting those requirements. A presentation from the Department of Administrative Services will provide an overview of the state’s procurement process.

State Rep. Victor Anderson and state Sen. Max Burns will chair the committee. Other lawmakers on the committee include state Rep. Tim Fleming, state Sen. Bo Hatchett, state Sen. Rick Williams and state Rep. Scott Holcomb, the only Democrat appointed. Other members include current and previous election officials as well as representation from the governor’s office.

The meeting will be livestreamed on the Georgia General Assembly’s website.
