Which Georgians do GA voters prefer running for President in ’28? It’s complicated

todayOctober 26, 2026

Background

PLUS: the unconventional Midwest Democratic gubernatorial candidate who isn’t DSA/progressive but is bucking establishment consultant-driven norms.

We all have those friends eager to commit to a relationship well ahead of its due time, and perhaps the 2026 midterm cycle is similar, in that Georgia voters are smitten with the idea of either Governor Brian Kemp (R) and/or Senator Jon Ossoff (D) running for President, far and above all other Georgia political options, according to a recent AJC/UGA poll conducted earlier this month.

That’s “SO Georgia,” right? Kemp at 47/47 and Ossoff at 44/50 just seems apt for the swingiest of swing states.

Ossoff, for his part, has said he’s not running for President in 2028, and there are a number of reasons to believe him, but Georgia Recorder opinion writer Jay Bookman says his ambitions seem “undeniable,” but reminds us that the other Georgia Senator may be more likely to be that Georgia name on presidential primary trails.

Meanwhile, with The Ron Show growing its reach and onto Heartland Signal station(s) beginning Monday, let’s look to the Midwest and learn a little about the unconventional Iowa Democratic gubernatorial candidate: meet Rob Sands – and hear why he reminds me of one particular Georgia Congressional candidate in particular.
