Go Vote!
Election Day has finally arrived, which means Georgia voters head to the polls this morning as early as 7 a.m.
Polls will be open until 7 p.m. Tuesday night, and results will start flowing in shortly after. However, depending on how close the races are, we might not know who wins until Wednesday afternoon, which is what happened in the Senate race in 2022.
Several races are on the ballot, including U.S. Senate seat that is currently occupied by incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff and the governor seat along with several other statewide races.
Ossoff is running against U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. In the gubernatorial race, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms is running against Republican Rick Jackson.
As people head to the polls, so will the Carter Center, a Georgia-based organization that has observed more than 120 elections in 40 countries.
The Carter Center will send observers to 30 counties in Georgia to observe the polling process.
Jonathan Stonestreet, senior associate director for the Carter Center’s Democracy Program, said they will be monitoring voting and the counting of ballots.
“The purpose of our observation is to make sure that the process of compiling the results is transparent and verifiable,” he said.
He said they will start their observation the morning of Election Day and stay until the ballots are counted and for any post-election audits.
“(We’re) employing observers, about 1,000 observers, across the state to make sure that the process is transparent and to give citizens an opportunity to engage in the elections in a nonpartisan way,” he said.
Voters must go to their assigned polling location on Election Day, which can be found on their My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
