Jon Ossoff wins reelection as Georgia election officials report few Election Day delays

Georgia voters faced many decisions during the midterm elections, and all eyes were watching the results to see who could claim vistory.

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff won reelection against U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. The Associated Press called the race before 8 p.m. on election night.

Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms made history by becoming the state’s first Black and first woman governor. Bottoms will also be the first Black woman in the U.S. to hold a governor’s seat.

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office reported few delays Tuesday morning. Mitchell County was the only county that reported a 10 minute delay for opening. Fulton County also reported minor equipment failures.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said about 1,000 ballots from advanced voting will be re-scanned as a precaution.

“It’s one of those things that can happen, and we have always had procedures in place,” he said.

Raffensperger said lines were fairly short on Election Day morning, and he was pleased to see the wait times at less than an hour.

“Short lines is really paramount for us, but it also builds trust and confidence,” he said.

Several other elections happened Tuesday, including for lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and public service commissioner.
