A pivot, an exit, some mis-direction & Friday reflections
In a late-night message to her campaign staff and volunteers and in a subsequent media release, Georgia Democratic House Representative Ruwa Romman (HD 97) announced she’d be “suspending her campaign.” Her statement further indicated “she will be qualifying for State Senate District 7 and launching Georgia We Deserve” as state qualifying begins next Monday, March 2nd.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Greg Bluestein broke the story at 8am Thursday.
The 32-year old Jordanian-born Representative launched her campaign in late September of 2025, hoping to bring a progressive voice to the Democratic field. In the ensuing five months, she amassed a 4000-plus person volunteer army to canvass the state, but fundraising lagged behind the likes of former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, former state Senator Jason Esteves and former Republican Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan.
In seeking the seat currently held by Senator Nabilah Islam-Parkes – who’s vying to be Georgia’s next Insurance Commissioner – questions remain as to what Romman’s entry would mean for the three lesser-known Democrats who’ve announced runs for the same seat.
In her statement to the media, Romman is quoted: “This campaign was never about me or any one person. This campaign was about showing the promise of our state and to fight for a Georgia we can afford and where we belong. That work did not begin with this campaign, and it will not end with our campaign. We will keep mobilizing volunteers all around the state to hold those in power accountable and remove those who ignore us from office.”
