Trump to hold campaign rally in Dalton ahead of Georgia midterms
President Donald Trump plans to come back to Georgia on the campaign trail just weeks ahead of the state’s midterm elections.
Trump is scheduled for a rally on Friday at Dalton Municipal Airport in Whitfield County. The rally starts at 1:30 p.m. and Trump’s remarks are set to begin at 3 p.m.
The president’s visit comes just weeks before Republicans attempt to take back one of Georgia’s Senate seats. The seat is currently held by Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.
Democrats view the seat as a vital one to keep in order to gain the majority in the Senate. It is also one of the most vulnerable seats, considering Ossoff is the only Democratic Senator running for reelection in a state that Trump won in 2024.
Ossoff will face Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins in the election in November. Recent polls have shown Ossoff in the lead. The Cook Political Report and the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics have both rated the Georgia Senate seat as likely Democrat. Polling from three other groups have rated Ossoff between 8-10 points in the lead.
This is the president’s third visit to Georgia this year, and the Republican National Convention has not released who will campaign alongside the president at Friday’s rally.
