CBS News Sunday Morning is an American television newsmagazine that has aired on CBS since January 28, 1979, originally created by Robert Northshield and E.S. “Bud” Lamoreaux III and hosted by Charles Kuralt. It was originally conceived to be a broadcast version of a Sunday newspaper magazine supplement, most typified by The New York Times Magazine, and was the first weekend morning network news program on American television. The 90-minute program is the top-rated Sunday morning news program in all key demographics—the #1 Sunday morning program in viewers for 22 consecutive seasons—featuring stories on the arts, music, nature, entertainment, sports, history, science, Americana, and unique human accomplishments and achievements. Known for its sparkling trumpet fanfare and familiar logo of the sun, the show airs at a different pace from typical news programs and focuses much of its attention on the performing arts, offering longer-length segments on a variety of topics from architecture to ballet to music to pop culture to politics.

Hosted by Jane Pauley since October 9, 2016—nearly forty years to the day since her debut on NBC’s Today—Pauley is the third anchor of the long-running program, following original host Charles Kuralt and Charles Osgood, who hosted Sunday Morning for twenty-two years as the program’s longest-serving host. Pauley is a respected broadcast journalist for more than 50 years and recipient of multiple Emmys, the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Gracie Allen Award from the Foundation of American Women in Radio & Television. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored Pauley with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, recognizing her crowning achievement as host of CBS News Sunday Morning. Previously, Pauley was host of NBC’s Today from 1976 to 1989 (first with Tom Brokaw, then with Bryant Gumbel) and was a co-founding anchor of Dateline NBC. Highlights of her work at CBS News include interviews with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Senator John Fetterman after his treatment for depression, Hillary Clinton following the 2016 election, David Letterman about his retirement, and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff.
