Ossoff finds campaign formula as Georgia Senate race heats up

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff’s campaign for reelection has received national recognition as he condemns President Trump and his opponent, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, while also maintaining a middle ground.

Ossoff started his campaign as one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for reelection being the only one from a state that Trump won in 2024. However, recent polling shows Ossoff seven points ahead of Collins for the election in November.

Ossoff has gained support by some prominent Republicans because of his focus on constituent services. He spoke with NPR in Brunswick at a campaign stop.

“My goal from the moment I was elected has been to serve the state with excellence,” he said. “To deliver for every part of the state, for everybody in the state, no matter their politics.”

Videos of Ossoff’s roasting comments at campaign rallies have gone viral on social media while also maintaining a controlled persona. 

At a campaign rally in Macon, Ossoff renewed calls for Collins to publicly confront racist and antisemitic speech made by people around him. The rally followed a Washington Post article that showed social media images of Preston Parra, a former intern and contractor of Collins’ political action committee.

In one post, Parra is dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes, and in another, he shares a swastika.

At the rally, Ossoff called the acts disgraceful. 

“Yet another scandal for the bigot congressman Mike Collins and his collapsing Senate campaign,” he said.

Ossoff and Collins will face off during the November general election.
