Georgia sets record for first day of early voting in midterm election

Georgia voters broke the record for early voting on Tuesday with more people voting on the first day of a midterm election than ever before.

The Georgia Secretary of State Office reported that more than 188,600 ballots were cast on Tuesday, which was more than 53,000 voters over the 2022 midterm election.

“This record-breaking turnout proves that voters have confidence in the integrity of our elections,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “It’s a testament to our strong election system overseen by 159 of the best county election officials in the country.”

The numbers represent a 40% increase over the 2022 midterm election data. In the 2018 midterm elections, only 70,849 Georgians cast their ballots on the first day of in-person, early voting.

In addition to in-person voting, more than 10,000 absentee ballots have been accepted.

Voters can find out information about polling locations and times on their My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

The Secretary of State Office has a live data tracker for voter turnout on its Election Data Hub.
