Georgia poll workers will manually log voters under new rule

A rule adopted in June by the State Election Board requires poll workers to manually log each voter using pen and paper after they are electronically logged, according to The Capitol Beat.

The measure was introduced after digital check-in failures during the May primary, and the five-member Republican controlled board voted to approve the rule 4-0, with the lone Democrat showing support with Republicans.

Election officials have expressed concern about the rule causing longer lines due to the requirement slowing down the check-in process.

Plus, officials say errors may be significant with it being difficult to write hundreds of names on a busy Election Day and with the large majority of poll workers being older adults.

Anne Dover, the election director in Cherokee County, told The Capitol Beat that she was concerned about what this could mean after the election.

“I feel like they will — whoever they are that are so concerned about this, I think we know who it is — they will get the electronic version of the numbered list, which they always have access to, it comes from the poll books, and they will take that list and try to compare it with the written numbered list. And if they see any discrepancies, we’ll be before the state election board,” she said.
