Georgia GOP files ethics complaint over secretive anti–Burt Jones ad campaign

The Georgia Republican Party filed an ethics complaint against Georgians for Integrity, Inc., a mysterious group that has launched an advertising campaign against Lt. Gov. Burt Jones.

Jones is running for governor in 2026, and his campaign has demanded TV stations to pull the 30-second ad from their airwaves, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The 30-second ad that the Jones campaign asked to be taken down refers to a $10 billion project that his family’s company proposed. The AJC reported that his attorney Vincent Russo said in the letter to TV stations that the group made “demonstrably false” claims.

Claims from the ethics complaint report that the group has spent more than $4 million to run political advertisements in Georgia while failing to register with Georgia officials and follow state campaign laws.

Georgia for Integrity, Inc., is registered in Delaware, a common choice for companies, and the ethics complaint claims it has failed to obtain a certificate of authority for Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office to conduct business in the state.

“The harm is not abstract—every day this group remains unregistered, Georgia voters are deprived of their right to know who is funding electioneering activity, who is attempting to influence their vote, and whether prohibited or excessive contributions are being funneled into the political process,” read the complaint.

Both Democrats and Republicans have tried to wash their hands of allegations that they are behind the stunt. The AJC reports that former Gov. Roy Barnes and Jones’ Republican opponents —  Attorney General Chris Carr and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — have said they are not involved with the group.
