Georgia colleges rank among nation’s top universities

U.S. News & World Report released its annual college rankings, and several Georgia colleges and universities ranked among the top 100 in the nation. 

More than 1,700 colleges and universities are compared across the country with 17 factors to determine academic quality and graduate success, including graduation rates, first-year retention rates and graduation rate performance.

The rankings are divided into three categories: Best National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges and Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Emory University ranked the highest of Georgia institutions in the national universities category at #23 with a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,320 students and an acceptance rate of 10%. 

Georgia Tech followed shortly behind Emory at #29 with a total undergraduate enrollment of 21,028 students and a 13% acceptance rate.

The University of Georgia ranked #52, tied with Virginia Tech, Mercer University ranked #148, and Georgia State University ranked #191.

Three Georgia institutions ranked in the top 100 in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category with Spelman College at #34, Agnes Scott College at #62 and Morehouse College at #83.

Spelman ranked first in the HBCU category. Morehouse followed in fourth place. Several other Georgia institutions made the top 100 on the HBCU list: Clark Atlanta University at #17, Fort Valley State University at #29, Albany State University at #40, and Savannah State University at #48.
