Atlanta’s World Cup crowds are giving the city’s dating scene a boost

Packed watch parties and fans from around the globe are doing more than filling Atlanta’s stadiums and sports bars—they’re also helping spark new relationships.

A new survey from DatingAdvice.com ranks Atlanta as the second-most romantic U.S. host city during the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. The survey found 46% of singles said they have gone on a date or become romantically involved with someone visiting for the tournament.

Dating platforms are also seeing the trend reflected in their data. A Tinder spokesperson said international users increased their swiping activity by 47% in World Cup host cities, while domestic users saw a 22% increase. Bumble also reported growing interest in group events and strong attendance at singles watch parties.

Lexi Young, founder of Atlanta-based In The Wild Dating, said the tournament has created the kind of in-person experiences many singles have been missing.

“I think it really has shown that people want an in-person connection, and sports are such a bonding concept,” Young said. “I’m really seeing so many people come out of their shell and expand their horizons on different cultures, and I think it has really helped the dating pool.”

Katie Friedman, who has visited four World Cup host cities this summer, said meeting international visitors has been one of the highlights of the tournament. She said conversations about travelers’ first impressions of the U.S. have made for easy icebreakers and memorable interactions.

Atlanta resident Rashad said the lively atmosphere, free events, food and music have encouraged more people to get out, socialize and meet someone new.

While the World Cup has brought elite soccer to Atlanta, it has also created opportunities for cultural exchange, new friendships and, for many singles, unexpected romance.
