Georgia launches voter turnout tracker after record early voting

After record voter turnout of early voting in a primary election on Monday, the Georgia Secretary of State Office released a new tool to allow Georgians to watch voter turnout by party affiliation.

Georgia’s Election Data Hub shows active data being reported by voter precincts across the state with a new party breakdown feature.

“Transparency is the bedrock of public trust,” Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger said in a release. “By providing more granular data on voting breakdowns, we’re giving every Georgian a front-row seat to a secure and accessible election process. This tool is another step in our commitment to keeping Georgia the gold standard for election administration.”

More than 68,000 Georgians had cast their ballots by the end of the day Tuesday, and another 12,000 cast their ballot by noon on Wednesday. Nearly 3,000 absentee ballots have been returned to their precincts.

Nearly 49,000 Democratic primary ballots have been cast and nearly 40,000 Republican primary ballots, according to the data.

The first day of early voting saw record turnout for a midterm primary election.

More than 35,000 Georgians cast their ballot in-person Monday, which is a 29% increase over the 2022 primary election. In 2018, only 9,266 Georgians voted on the first day of early voting for the primary election. 

“This record-breaking turnout is proof that Georgians trust our election process,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “My office is in constant coordination with county election officials to ensure early voting continues to run smoothly.”

Early voting continues through May 15, and voters can check their precinct location, times and sample ballots at their My Voter Page.
