The Georgia Chamber of Commerce held its first State of Economic Development Wednesday as part of the Chamber’s “State of” series.
More than 400 people attended to listen to state leaders discuss Georgia’s economic growth and competitiveness, according to a news release.
Gov. Brian Kemp provided video remarks touting the state’s record of being named the number one state to do business for 12 years in a row.
“That means good paying jobs, opportunities close to home, and a stronger future for the next generation. To build on that momentum, we’ve prioritized three critical areas: workforce development, improved infrastructure, and growing opportunity in rural Georgia,” Kemp said in his remarks.
Commissioner Pat Wilson of the Georgia Department of Economic Development gave the State of Economic Development address, which celebrated the state’s economic successes.
After raising concerns about anti-capitalist rhetoric, Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber, said that Georgia is a state that has been able to reduce taxes, give money back to taxpayers and maintain a substantial rainy day fund.
“All that doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens because we’ve been able to bring companies here that have invested in the state that have allowed us to pass those benefits back on,” he said.
