Valdosta City Schools’ nutrition staff and volunteers packed 40,000 breakfasts and 40,000 lunches that were distributed to families for Winter Break.
“Thousands of families are heading into the holiday break with food on the table because you showed up, stepped in, and served with care,” read the Facebook post.
“Thank you for giving your time, your energy, and your hearts to support our students and families. This is the very best of who we are as a Wildcat family.”
Volunteers and staff of the school system distributed the meals on Dec. 22, the first day of Winter Break. The holiday hiatus ends with the start of school Jan. 5, according to the school system’s website.
The Seamless Summer Option Program, a Georgia Department of Education program that provides funding to school districts to feed children during school breaks, funded the meal distribution, according to a news release.
