Will ‘Charlie Brown’ kick that ball or will ‘Lucy’ yank it away (again)?

todayNovember 4, 2026

Background

Going into Tuesday’s historic midterm election day, it was hard not to feel like ‘Charlie Brown,’ eyeing the football firmly planted on the ground, held by the nefarious ‘Lucy Van Pelt’ – just knowing we were going to kick that ball through the uprights.

Keisha Lance Bottoms’ closing message seems to have been focused and sharp, while her opponent, Rick Jackson, relied on months-old TV ads. It’s also noteworthy seeing who among her primary opponents have continued to work on her and her party’s behalf (Jason Esteves, Rep. Ruwa Romman, Sen. Derrick Jackson) and who hasn’t (Mike Thurmond, Geoff Duncan).

Last week, Jay Bookman, writing for the Georgia Recorder, opined that this election day could (and did!) reshape Georgia’s state governance in a profound way.

The AJC’s Caleb Groves, however, cautioned what may or may not be known by the time we go to bed. The AJC’s Greg Bluestein provides five questions we’ll eventually get answers to, as well.
