Georgia health officials have confirmed additional measles cases connected to the outbreak of the virus associated with a metro Atlanta daycare facility.
The Fulton County Department of Health announced Friday that state officials confirmed three additional cases, which brings the total number up to eight.
Although details remain limited, officials say the children involved were either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.
The first measles case connected with the outbreak was reported by county officials on Aug. 18, and four additional cases were confirmed on Aug. 28.
Georgia has had a total of 14 confirmed cases of measles in 2026, and the nation has more than 2,700 cases, which is the highest number in recent history, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Symptoms of the measles include a high fever, runny nose, cough, red and water eyes and a rash. If you have symptoms or believe you have been exposed, contact a healthcare provider immediately, but do not go into the doctor’s office without first notifying them about your condition.
