Georgia public colleges to raise tuition for 2026–2027 school year

Georgia’s public colleges and universities are raising tuition for students this upcoming fall.

The Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia voted Tuesday to increase tuition by 1% for in-state students and 3% for out-of-state and international students for the 2026-2027 academic year.

“For more than a decade, USG and the Board of Regents have prioritized keeping college affordable for families so more students can pursue higher education right here in Georgia,” USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue said in a news release. “With enrollment at record levels, we’re focused on limiting new financial hurdles and delivering real value on every campus. Today’s decision reinforces that commitment.”

The USG is made up of 25 institutions in the state. The Board also approved changes to mandatory fees at 13 of those institutions.

This is the fourth time in 10 years that the Board approved tuition increases. For the 2024-2025 academic year, Georgia colleges averaged tuition costs at $5,924 for in-state students and $16,740 for out-of-state students, according to College Tuition Compare.

“We are making a continued investment in Georgia’s future and in the students whose degrees will drive Georgia’s economy, strengthen our communities and open doors to prosperity,” Perdue said.
