The Politics Bar After Hours - Shorter Lines
Over the weekend, U.S. and Israeli forces launched sweeping strikes on Iran, hitting Revolutionary Guard sites, missile launch facilities and air defenses. Some outlets even report that an all girls school was hit. Iranian state media says Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed.
Smoke and fire were seen rising from inside the U.S. Embassy compound in Kuwait on Monday after Iran launched new attacks across the region, according to video obtained by The Associated Press.
Footage showed thick smoke billowing above the diplomatic compound as alarms sounded. A correspondent for Agence France-Presse also reported seeing smoke rising from the mission.
Hours earlier, the U.S. Embassy had issued an urgent warning to Americans in Kuwait, telling them to shelter indoors and avoid the embassy grounds. Staff were instructed to remain in place, taking cover on the lowest floors and away from windows.
The embassy incident comes as the humanitarian toll inside Iran continues to climb.
Iran’s Red Crescent said Monday that 555 people have been killed across 131 cities since U.S. and Israeli strikes began two days ago. In a statement posted on Telegram, the aid group said hundreds of additional people have been wounded in what it described as widespread attacks.
The developments mark another sharp escalation in a conflict that is now affecting multiple countries across the region.
